Sarah Payne, the designer of the Olympics London 2012 Basketball Coin and a toy designer from Cardiff, entered the competition after her late grandmother encouraged her to participate. She has a product design degree from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff and has in the past designed props for Doctor Who. More recently, she is designing international greeting cards and wrapping paper as well as toys. The portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS features on the obverse of each coin with the date 2011. Natasha Ratcliffe is a self-employed sculptor and part-time chef from Cornwall and is responsible for creating both the Olympics London 2012 Wheelchair Rugby Coin and the Olympics London 2012 Handball Cupernickel Coin. Natasha has a degree in art which she received from the University of Falmouth and specializes in creating coins and medals. She has had international exhibitions and has some selected pieces on display in the British Museum collection. David Gibbons, the designer of the Olympics London 2012 Taekwondo Coin, is a 75-year-old retiree from Matlock in Derbyshire. David has been a keen artist throughout his life but eventually ended up in a career as a social worker. At the age of 55, David suffered a heart attack and was forced into early retirement, where he was given the gift of time and was once again able to commit himself to his passion - art. He has been a dedicated cyclist from a young age and is a member of a cycling club. Theo has tried a variety of cycling styles, which is where he found the inspiration for his track cycling design. Shane Abery, the designer of the Olympics London 2012 Boxing Coin and a delivery driver from Reading, only entered the competition in order to encourage his children to enter and didn't consider submitting his design until friends and family encouraged him to do so. Shane wanted to ensure that the detail of the boxing gloves was as accurate as possible so he went and bought a pair to model his design on.
