Agents vs. Personal Managers for Actors and Models Many actors and actresses hire agents and personal managers for a standard commission of their earnings. The commission is 5-20 percent of your gross earning for the job. Production personal including casting coordinators and directors cast through agents and managers. Many go through the representatives of talent rather than talent directly. Your acting or modeling agent or agency is retained to coordinate and submit you for auditions and casting calls, help with contract and pay negotiations and to assist you in the audition process to help you land the job. MODELING AND ACTING AGENTS: Your agent is supposed to do the leg work and find you jobs for a percentage of your earnings. An actor or talent does NOT have to pay upfront out of pocket ANY money to the agent to get them work. Your Agent will receive their money once the actor or actress has received their check. An agent is great to have as they have contacts and clients that go through and notify them for their casting needs. If you have an agent, you have a resource to get work and auditions that you would not otherwise have access to. Your agent is your resource and representative to help you negotiate the pay agreements and contracts, audition suggestions and will help you with any other issues you may have with the project. And they do it all for a percentage of the fee you are paid from the work they get you. To find a good acting or modeling agent to represent you is not easy. There are so many bad agents and agencies, so you need to ferret them out when seeking a reputable and trustworthily agent representation. We suggest contact as many as possible and interview them in person. The modeling and acting agents job is to find you work, so make sure the agent you select is committed in helping you find work. When you find good representation you will have access to more opportunities when you are represented by an agent. PERSONAL MANAGER: Many people in addition to a talent agent or in lieu of an agent hire a personal manager. A personnel manager helps you to succeed in your career in the entertainment field by advising you on issues regarding your career. Some personal managers market and represent you for projects and auditions too. Talents pay their personal manager a fee of their earnings. It varies but the industry standard is anywhere from 10 to 20 percent of your gross earnings.
