Casting ROCK/POP STARS for film in Los Angeles, California
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

CASTING CALL IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA FOR SINGERS, BANDS AND NAME ROCK/POP SINGERS FOR FILM OPPORTUNITY
Description: ROCK/POP STARS! Looking to make the leap to the big screen? Then we have a project for you!
Producing a new film entitled; The Inn At The Mist, a ghost-story musical set in Victorian England. Were searching artists of various ages for all the major characters in this production. Visit link below for a detailed synopsis, music from the film, and podcast complete, music, sound-effects, etc. It gives a real feel for the film. Artists chosen will be asked to sign a non-binding letter of intent. On October 31st, 1870 on the coast of England in the town of Brighton, the Inn At The Mist burned to the ground. On October 31st, 1875, the Inn At The Mist has been reincarnated...
This haunting musical centers around the character, Mary Charles, the former keeper of the Inn At The Mist. Mary Charles is alive, but only in spirit. In life, Mary Charles witnessed many unfortunate events while "keeping" the Inn. Some of these events were of an evil nature. Although she did not participate in these events, she did nothing to help. This is almost an equal sin. Therefore, she has been brought back into existance to redeem herself for her lack of intervention.
Mary Charles' counterpart is the coachman, Michael Gregory. At first glance, Michael Gregory appears to be a friendly, affable coachman who stumbles upon the Inn with a passenger, Jonathan Taylor - a man with a questionable past - seeking refuge from inclement weather. Actually, Michael Gregory is the personification of evil. He has, along with Mary Charles, orchestrated a union of four apparent strangers. His purpose is quite the opposite of Mary Charles, for as she is there to redeem herself and protect her arriving guests, he is there to collect their souls. On every Hallow's Eve since the beginning of time, Michael Gregory has attempted to collect souls of the vulnerable. In addition to Jonathan Taylor, on this particular Hallow's eve, the other arriving guests include Brian Meddows and his fiancee, Priscilla White.
There is also the housekeeper, Millicent Graham, who has an unusual tie to the Inn and these guests. Neither Jonathan, Brian nor Priscilla are aware of what lies ahead for them on this stormy night. Almost immediately, each of the guests begin having strange experiences which they try to rationalize as the result of the storm;, voices, visions, moaning, singing and the general feeling of an unseen presence in the house.
Over the course of the evening, Brian finds out that he lived at this Inn as a child. He also realizes that this was the same place his Mother committed suicide after her husband abandoned her upon finding out that she was with child.
Jonathan is also suspicious that he has been to the Inn as well. Once he finds the name of the residence is the "Inn At The Mist", he realizes that this is where he murdered his concubine,
Clara Rogers, just 5 years earlier. As time passes and nerves become more frayed, Michael Gregory slowly reveales his intentions to the guests of the Inn. Simultaneously, Mary and Millicent reveal the previously held secret connections the guests have with each other. As Michael gregory manifests more and more of his power and evil intent, Mary Charles must face the decision as to whether to be a willing accomplice in Michael Gregory's demonic treachery or redeem herself by intervening in the salvation of those entrusted to her care. One last dramatic confrontation will decide who will triumph.
Talent Type:
MICHAEL GREGORY: The coachman, 35-55, working class, appears friendly & helpful, but evil personified. He has but one night a year to fulfill his purpose; collect souls away from the light thus to bring about their demise. Second tenor, must move well.
MARY CHARLES: The Innkeeper, ghost, 30-40s, strong, comforting. Has a purpose, unknown to the other guests, which is to bring about redemption and to ward off the evil that is intent on destruction. Alto. JONATHAN TAYLOR: Late 40s to 50s. Once wealthy landowner. Stern, bitter, driven. He has been a party to two sinful deeds. He has tried for years to keep them secret. So far he has been successful, until tonight. Baritone. BRIAN MEDDOWS: 20s, poor, raised in an orphanage after his Mother, Beatrice Taylor, committed suicide when he was but 5 years old. He is the son of Jonathan Taylor, though neither of them know of this relationship. He is engaged to Priscilla White. Tenor.
BEATRICE TAYLOR: ghost, 30s. Was abandoned by her husband (Jonathan Taylor). Gave birth to son Brian. Went slowly insane and committed suicide when her son was 5 yrs old. Soprano. CLARA ROGERS: late 20s, Beautiful but hard-hearted. Ran off with JonathanTaylor. She too became disposable to Jonathan and was eventually murdered by him. She is seeking revenge. Soprano PRISCILLA WHITE: early 20s. Innocent, nave, but strong. She is from a wealthy family, but gave it all up to be with Brian. Second soprano. MILLICENT GRAHAM: housekeeper. 40s stern, standoffish and generally unpleasant. Her allegiances to good or evil are suspect. Alto

Greg Thompson Productions is looking for three actors (male actors only, please) to mime Paul, George and Ringo
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

Greg Thompson Productions is looking for three actors (male actors only, please) to mime Paul, George and Ringo of the Beatles in its cabaret production, "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE," an hour long tribute to the songs of the Fab Four. The show will feature award winning Beatle tribute artist, Hal Bruce, who was recently inducted into the International Beatles Week Hall of Fame in Liverpool, England.
Actors should have the physical look of the Beatles, but need not be facially similar. Musical abilities are a plus, as you will be using prop instruments (left-handed bass, guitar, keyboards and drums) in the show.
Actors must be 21 years or older.
This is a great opportunity for musicians, too! If you are a three piece band that fits the above qualifications, look at this as a chance to get away and work on your own material while earning some money on stage and working with a renowned international artist!
"ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" will be performed from December 31, 2008 through March 8, 2009 at Seven Feathers Hotel and Casino Resort in Canyonville, OR. The show runs Tuesday through Sunday, twice daily. Salary is $500 per person per week, plus housing and a meal allowance for the run of the show. Rehearsals will be in Seattle, WA. Travel is provided.
Photo and résumé submissions are being accepted at NOW gtpwa@yahoo.com

How To Start An Acting Career If You Live In A Small Town: 17 Things You Can Do Today
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

One question I'm often asked is about how to start an acting career. My own personal experience coupled with what I got out of a recent conversation with best selling author Brian O'Neil (Acting As A Business: Strategies For Success), allowed me to produce this list of things you can do to facilitate your acting career start.
Some of the questions I entertain come from young people who are frustrated by the fact that they live in a small town and can't seem to find any opportunities to act in their area.
Whether that is your case or not, if you are looking to start an acting career you should find the following list helpful.
1. Look up casting offices in your area.
2. Look up talent agencies in your area.
3. Check your Regional Theatre Directory for their policy on auditioning and for information about local and upcoming projects.
4. Universities with film departments: Film students are required to produce a certain number of film projects each year and for those projects they are always looking for actors!
5. Find advertising agencies that have clients who shoot on-camera commercials and commercial print ads.
6. See if there is a SAG, AFTRA or Equity office in your area and see if they have a list of reputable talent agents in the area.
7 . Through your local courthouse or cultural affairs office, look up your regional theatre directory.
8. Check the arts & culture section of your local newspaper for theatres, shows, plays and events in your area. Take note of the venues where they take place and contact them for the information you desire.
9. Contact local photographers to see if they have contacts for ad agencies, other actors, casting directors, agencies. Agencies and Casting directors often refer actors to certain headshot photographers.
10. Look up you state's film commission. Usually state film commissions have a list of upcoming film projects to be shot in that state.
11. See if there are any special editions of magazines and/or newspapers that have to do with theatre, film or acting in your area.
12. Pick up a copy of the Hollywood Reporter. Sometimes you will find a list of film projects that will be shot in different areas of the country.
13. Try to find a list of Equity and Non-Equity theatres in your area. Go there and they should be able to give you a wealth of information about where you can go to get started, teachers, schools, etc.
14. Look up acting schools, acting teachers and acting coaches in your area.
15. Look up casting offices that cast for extras, even if they are in a big city like New York or L.A. and sign up with them. Make sure they have your headshot and résumé and cover letter. But tell them where you are and where you live. If you are not in the big cities where lots of film and extra work is being shot, you'll want to tell them to call you when there is work to be had in an area you can easily get to.
16. Remember that when building your résumé, the more theatre work you have on your résumé from reputable theatres, the more attention you will get from casting directors and agents.
17. Lastly, you could also go and take classes with casting directors or agents if you can find them. That is a great opportunity not only to meet casting directors and agents, but also to spend time them.
Good luck!

Choosing A Headshot Photographer: 10 Things To Look For
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

1. Search out headshot photographers in your city or in the city you want to have them taken in. Look at the different websites and look over the pictures. When looking at photographers' pictures, take note of the following: The quality of the pictures: 1. Lighting 2. Quality of the printing (if you see hard copies) 3. Expressions on the faces of the actors 4. Does the photographer have everyone pose in the same way or do you see individualism expressed with each actor? 5. Are the women photographed all in a certain way? 6. Are the men photographed all in a certain way? 7. Are the poses of the actors appropriate? 8. Ask yourself the question, "If I were a casting director looking at these photos, would I call these people in?" 9. Another question to ask yourself, especially if you see some photos that just aren't of very good quality and/or with poor lighting and poor expressions: "Why does this photographer have these photos on his website? Are they the best actor headshots that he/she has to show off to prospective clients?" 10. Do you like the photographer's style?
If a photographer doesn't have a website, that's not a good sign, that he/she is reputable. Today in 2007 a website is the way to showcase yourself in this business. If a photographer doesn't have one, then that should raise a flag as to his/her credibility in this business. It doesn't mean they are not good, but let it be a first alarm that you park in your mind until you move on and see his/her work.

How To Convince Your Parents To Support Your Wanting To Become An Actress
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

Not long ago, a young girl told me that she was having a difficult time convincing her parents to support her wanting to become an actress.
This was my answer to her:
What do you think would really make your parents start to take you seriously and support you?
Do they know what actors do? REALLY? Do they know what it's like being an actor? Do they know what you really have to go through to become an actor?
Do YOU know the answers to those questions? Do you know what it's like and what the issues actors face, what it's like to work on set, what your chances are of just getting work, how hard you'll have to work, how much you will have to invest of your time and energy to study, to do mailings, to write cover letters, to submit yourself for auditions, to prepare for auditions, prepare your monologues, bone up on your cold reading skills, take specialization classes, travel, etc. Do you know what the average earnings are of an actor these days? Do you know how many days on the average an actor works. Do you know why business skills are so important for the success of the average actor and do you have them? Do you know how to get an agent? Do you know what the main reason is that some actors get discovered? Are you aware of some of the scams that you need to watch out for? Do you know what it takes to become an actor and do you have what it takes?
That's a lot of questions I know and I asked them on purpose.
Why?
Because if you can start to answer all those questions, maybe you will be more convincing. I know you're young, but you have to get started sometime. Some teenagers have someone who is an adult and who supports them in their goals. If you don't, you can either keep butting heads with you're your parents or being afraid to approach the subject, or you can start to find out for yourself about this career path you want to embark on and show them that you are really serious. In other words, the more information you have, the more informed you are about what you say you want, the more you can talk about it intelligently and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about, the greater your chances of being able to convince them to support you. If they have just as much information as you do, then you are on an equal playing field. They are your parents. They are bigger. They are older. They win! At least until you're out of the house or until they no longer foots your bills!
Is that the way you want it? No? Then get a move on and start doing your homework! :-)
Does doing your homework mean that you will get what you want in the end? Does it mean that you will be one hundred percent guaranteed to get their support? Not necessarily. Your parents are certainly taking into consideration your best interests. But even if you don't get them to support you, you will know a lot more than you do now about the profession you say you want to pursue.
Stay tuned for future articles and we will address the questions I mentioned above, one by one.
Good luck to you!!!

Spammers and Scammers Don’t Give a Dammers
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

EFM receives thousands of emails everyday. We see just about everything including all the spam and virus attacks being sent out via email. You need to be on the defensive, and remember that there are thousands of people from all over the world thinking up new ways to annoy, terrorize and steal.
Frankly we are sick of it but because of the large amount of people contacting us and the high profile of EFM our spam filters are not 100% effective for us. The filters loose important emails from real users trying to contact us for information, casting calls and so forth. This requires us to go through our spam and junk emails every day to pick out missed communication. So we have decided to fight this scourge.
Spammers and people who send out viruses are worldwide and constantly coming up new and innovative ways to fool us in order to crash our computers, sell us needless products and try to elicit ways to steal our money through Bank and Paypal scams.
EFM has collected spam emails and we have decided to publish and unveil these crooks, so in the future we will post the scams and spams as they arrive in a effort to help you protect yourself from these people bent on destruction and annoyance.
Scams:
VIRUS- There are emails coming in that have .pdf files attached to them, the pdfs are titled all sorts of subjects from invoice, income_report, company-events and even some with your name. Don't be lured onto opening them. If you do not know the sender and you are not expecting anything then delete it. Another test is to check the email address it is coming from. Not the displayed email address but the actual email address that is hidden initially when receiving an email.
VIRUS - There are virus emails going around that say your family member, school-mate, neighbor, is sending you an ecard. To view your card, you have to click on a link that takes you to a web site with an embedded virus. Delete them. They use displayed email addresses that appear to be form hallmark or antiquepostcards and just about everything you can imagine, but again, this is only the displayed email address, not the real email address it is coming form. In almost ALL CASES these email address are not real, if you try to send to them you will receive a unable to deliver email back.
Theft of your money scam - There are hundreds of bank emails purporting to need your information or login because they are changing the website, taking a survey or blocking your use of the bank web site, this is a SCAM to get sensitive information in order to steal your money. Delete them and in doubt, do not clink on the links, call your bank personally and ask them questions.
Your bank will NEVER send you an email asking you for sensitive information. Note: These scams are pretty good, they create a web site home that mirrors your real banks web site to get you to put in your user name and password, pin number, account number and so on.. The web site is a mirror duplicate of your banks web site, but do NOT be fooled. Never click on the links and always call your bank before you provide any information to anyone.
Paypal theft scam - thousands of emails are circulating our inbox with paypal notices, from your account has been blocked to you sent money to some unknown person to an unauthorized email address has been added to your account. These people are trying to steal your money. Do not fall for it. If in doubt call or visit the real paypal website to check.
Spammers:
There are hundreds of emails coming in that offer drugs and pharmacy items. These are spammers trying to sell you drugs at discounted prices. Some of these drugs are tainted and sold by shady companies. Do not buy from them.
Viagra and sexual stimulants emails are sent out by the thousands in hopes that they will get even a small percentage buying their products. Obviously there are a number of people that do buy and or visit the web site. If they did not the spammers would not go to so much trouble to send out millions of emails.
Spammers by the droves are sending out emails to buy stocks, again if people deleted these emails the companies would eventually stop their harassment because no one would respond.
————————————————
It is of our opinion that what will happen in the future as a result of all this junk email and scamming is that it will cost us money to send out emails. This is of course is outrageous and we the public will suffer because of others abusing the system. The resulting charge will be used to to make the process for spammers and scammers expensive and less likely to bombard us with useless emails.
Help stop spammers and scammers by learning to identify and delete their emails.
Do not become a victim - help fight this creeps and perps..
Do not buy from emails that are spamming you and never open any attachment from anyone that you do not know.
Do not click on links that take you to unfamiliar web sites. Web pages can have embedded viruses then will infect your computer. And be SURE to install a good virus program. Even with a good virus program, practice not opening any attachments or going to unfamiliar web sites to keep your computer safe and secure.
Here is a great web site to get a terrific and free virus program. It scans your email for viruses and checks your system.
They offer FREE basic protection. But be advised that is does not filter all viruses such as attachments including this new virus we see that we are seeing where a .pdf files is attached
http://free.grisoft.com/
If anyone else knows of a scam or virus circulating, let us everyone know. If we stick together we can help combat theft and the damage of our computers

State of West Virginia, Marshall University applaud release
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

With this week's announcement of the Sept. 18, 2007 release date for the DVD of "We Are Marshall" from Warner Home Video, West Virginians will see the state and Marshall University receive attention for the story about one of the most tragic events and spirited recoveries in college sports history. With featurettes about the state of West Virginia and Marshall University, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the state with a unique opportunity to share good news about the university, economic development and travel in the Mountain State.
The single-disc DVD release comes nine months after the film opened in theaters across the country and will renew interest in the story of the way a university and a community grew after the November 1970 Marshall University football team, coaching staff and supporters died as the plane they were in attempted to land at Huntington's Tri-State Airport. "The movie is not just about our loss, but about our strength and our ability to survive and grow from such a heart-wrenching experience," said Gov. Joe Manchin. "As governor, I am pleased that the state, the city of Huntington and Marshall University were able to be an integral part of the production and introduction of the film."
Marshall University President Stephen J. Kopp said, "The upcoming release of the 'We Are Marshall' movie on DVD signals the next chapter in what has been an amazing experience for the Marshall community. Through the making of this inspirational film, people from across the United States have gained a greater awareness and affinity for Marshall University, the Huntington community and the State of West Virginia.
"We are already seeing this impact expressed through increased interest in our university, especially from prospective students and their families," Kopp continued. "We appreciate the creativity, hard work and commitment of McG, the film's director, and all of the talented people at Warner Bros. who succeed in telling our story, which has a timeless message, in a meaningful and compassionate manner."
The five-minute West Virginia featurette is made all the more special because it is narrated on camera by the three lead actors of "We Are Marshall" and because it is an auto play feature, which means it is the first thing viewers will see when the DVD begins playing. Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox and Oscar-nominee David Strathairn share their enthusiasm for the state with Gov. Manchin.
The DVD also includes "Marshall Today," a comprehensive look at the University since the events that are portrayed in the movie. The segment features well-known and highly successful Marshall alumni such as Bob Cosmai, former Hyundai America CEO; Verna K. Gibson, former President and CEO of the Limited Stores Division of The Limited Inc.; CNN correspondent Joe Johns; Broadway singer Mark McVey, Olympic silver medalist Lea Ann Parsley and New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington. They reflect on how Marshall prepared them for life after college, and marvel at how the University has evolved since their time on campus. The West Virginia Film Office along with Marshall University played important roles in the decision by Warner Bros. to film some of the most moving scenes in the film in Huntington, W. Va. Discussions between the state and the film company began in 2005 and filming took place in the spring of 2006. The historic Keith-Albee Theater in Huntington was the site of a gala hometown premier on Dec 12, with the national release on Dec. 22. "We Are Marshall" will be available Sept. 18 on standard format in both widescreen and full frame formats and in HD DVD and Blu-ray versions.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS: Have to look young enough to play the character in his late-teens for a flashback. Spanish is required. No accent. As he reconciles with Misha Bravo, a family friend whom he has been enamored with since his teens, he is appalled by and thrust into her opposing mind-frame and philosophy. This cultural osmosis will have him questioning his beliefs and ignorant hostility.

A manic depressive/hopeless romantic punk rocker (whose closest ties are with a group of pop-culture obsessed absurdist misfits) she becomes the idol of Tommy Buscavida's temptation, a childhood friend she hasn't seen in X number of years. Stubborn and opinionated, but quiet only until questioned; she will revaluate the severed link between she and her blood-family.

So You Say You Want To Be Discovered, Eh?
Posted by: ExtrasForMovies Staff

Here Is Some Advice For The Brand New Actor
It does happen that people get 'discovered'. How often does it happen? To answer that question. Here's another one. What are the chances of winning the lottery? Getting discovered is like hitting the luck of the draw, so to speak.
On the other hand there is a saying I really like, which says: "The more prepared I am, the more luck I seem to have." That said, if you want to really be discovered, you have to position yourself to be discovered. You have to work hard to build a base. You have probably heard that it is a difficult profession to pursue and there is truth to that. If you have a method and a strong character, you can be successful. I have been in contact with young and older aspiring and new actors over the past few years and I was inspired to write a book for them.
Many successful people in different walks of life as well as successful actors have the following things in common or they do/have done them very well. It is my advice to you as well.
4 Key Areas 1. YOU: Get to know yourself better, your strengths, weaknesses, the opportunities you have, the resources you have at your disposal (and not just financial, but intellectual, skills, capabilities, talents, etc.), that are unique to you! Figure out what you want out of your life first (specifically). Figure out how acting fits into that. Then figure out what you want out of your acting career. (specifically) Doing these two things will help you save a lot of time, effort and maybe even money down the road.
2. YOUR ATTITUDE: Develop your creativity to invent ways for you to position yourself ahead of your competition and to find new ways to promote yourself. This is a biggie! Figure out what it is that motivates you and learn how to keep yourself motivated so that you can get done the things you need to get done and to help you deal with the rejection that you will inevitably encounter in this business. Figure out how to develop a strong sense of perseverance if you don't already have it. There is much to do and you MUST be motivated or you will have difficulty.
3. YOUR PLAN: Put together a solid plan that will ensure that you will get to where you want to go in your acting career and have a real chance at achieving the success you want and stick to it. Learn how to plan effectively.
4. YOUR BUSINESS: Find out what the business skills you need to run your business of being an actor. You are an actor. You are a company. And you are a business. You are the CEO of that business. You are/will be a free lance professional. You have a product and that product is you. You have to know how to market it, how to sell it and how to create value for those who 'invest' in you. There are short cuts, but very often, if you skip one of those steps, in the long run, unless you are lucky, it will slow you down and it just might mean that you won't reach your goal at all.
So what could your next steps be? 1. Try to really understand what it means to be a working actor and start working on the things I mentioned above. Here are a couple of links to get you started, but I would advise you to get a lot of different perspectives of what successful and non-successful actors do in their daily activities.
2. And in the meantime, start taking acting classes. Study acting technique. Study. Study. And develop your SKILL. Without it, you won't go very far.
3.Start boning up on the business skills you will need to be successful at promoting yourself as an actor when the time comes. I have seen many a wonderful actor, not get much work for this very reason. Not always the best actor gets the work!
Just wanted to give you some food for thought. There's a lot more where that came from. Stay tuned for future articles.
Good luck to you!!!
Anthony Smith left a successful corporate career as a senior manager in Nike and Levi's after 15 years to follow his dream of becoming an entrepreneur, writer, motivational speaker and actor. While enjoying success in his "new" life, Anthony shares his business insight and acting experience with young actors. Aside from acting work, he has created http://www.actingcareerstartup.com and his first book, Acting Career Start-Up: Four Key Factors For Success will hit the U.S. market in April 2007.
